BJD artist is bubbling with creative energy
New surroundings seem to agree with ball-jointed doll (BJD) artist Rhonda Ingram-Calhoun. She’s about to wrap up the pre-orders for her newest doll, Stella, and she’s following up the release of an instructional dollmaking DVD and kit with plans to hold classes later this year.
“Stella is my first BJD sculpt since setting up the new studio in Mexico. I’ve had a lot of fun sculpting her and lming her progress videos to share with her followers,” Ingram-Calhoun said, adding that the videos chronicling Stella’s creation are available for viewing through the CreamSoda BJD website. “Stella made a photo debut with her stray cat, Princess, who will be available soon, along with other strays. I am also currently working on a little brother, and have plans to add a friend or two.
“In the flavor of Mexico, I am also designing a line of ball-jointed La Catrina dolls for a local boutique gallery. ey will also be o ered through Facebook and my Etsy shop when they are available.
Possibly her biggest project for this year, Ingram-Calhoun is offering week-long Destination Doll classes in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Attendees will be able to make a complete art doll, with instruction covering everything from making the initial armature, sculpting, adding hair and eyes, painting, and outfitting the doll.
